Something is comming...

And its big... (Sorry, not alexis3... yet)

Where are all the updates?

Posted On: October 01, 2007 | Posted in: Site News

So if youre wondering why its so quiet, there are a few reasons. Between my new full time job and school, I was also working on a few projects. alexis3 has been about 80% done on the phpBB3 system for quite awhile and I just need some time to sit down and do some quality control on it.

As well there will be a major change in this sites function in the near future. As a side project, I made a design for the compiz-fusion website and they rejected it in favour of their own. As such, this new design will become the new front for my new design company. The name and details will be released at a later date, but needless to say, it will be good. I also hope to not be starting this venture alone, so I am seeking talented designers who want to gain some experiance who may otherwise not necessarily be able to do it alone. If you are interested and can do Web Design and/or Web Development (Knowledge in phpBB not required), shoot me a detailed email with examples of work via the contact form.

What will become of andrewCharron.com? Well, its function will change for the most part. It will become more of my own personal site than anything, with my new design company picking up the professional side of it. Downloads will still be accessable on both sites.

So all in all, no, this site isnt dead. Im hard at work on various projects and will look to get this started again very soon.

Lack of updates

Posted On: June 04, 2007 | Posted in: Site News

Hello everyone. Sorry for the lack of updates, a few things have come up. There are 2 templates in the queue that I need to finish up and check over, which I will try to get to this weekend.

The reason for the delays has been a few things; Firstly theres University Exams that came up last month, which takes priority. Second, my sponsor decided to drop off the face of the planet (Or just stop paying me) so I had to find a job to cover the funds. And that leads to the last point, my job. I recently got hired full time at a logistics place, which takes up a huge amount of my time. I will try and update on weekends.

On that note, as soon as I release the new templates I will begin porting alexis to phpBB3. I may also port sleek at the request of one user, but it will probably look much different (But good) than what sleek looks like now. I havent had a chance to look over the new template engine since the first beta, so im hoping that it isnt too far off.

Finally, I am looking for a new sponsor. The sponsor gets what the current sponsor has now, a link at the foot of all my template downloads on here, phpBB.com, phpBBhacks.com and any other sites that list my downloads that you specify. As well, you get a link on this website, which had a pr of 6 last time I checked, and will go up soon with the release of phpBB3. Contact me for pricing.

New Site Design

Posted On: April 09, 2007 | Posted in: Site Updates

Ive gone and done it again. Ive done a revision of the website design. I originally wanted to do a side by side comparison, but I didnt make a backup (oops) of the old design before I transferred the new one over. If you have a screenshot for some reason, feel free to send it to me. Heres a list of the changes:

Rid the site of the overpowering blue gradient. Originally this was an accident, I had made the black one for a new header image which I chose not to use, and the black looked much better with the old image. The old image is the same, but I moved it up more to show a different part of the tree.

The entire site is now wider. Im not sure how much wider, but its somewhere between 50-100 pixels. As said before, I neglected to make a backup of the old design. I believe it was 700px before, and is now 750px.

Changed the community window, and removed the image headers on the sidebar. I think it looks MUCH better now.

Sidebar is now blue. Hooray!

Finally changed site of the month. I havent had time to search for a new site, so ive made it a new site im starting. More on this new site soon. Also, feel free to apply your site for site of the month.

Thats the list of changes, lemme know what you think. Thats what comments are for :)

Big Stuff Ahead

Posted On: April 03, 2007 | Posted in: Site Updates

So theres big things ahead for andrewCharron.com. I have completed 2 custom jobs that arent on the website yet, as well as still have to release the greenlush template to the public. I also have a template that's almost finished, called Darkened.

This seems like a good time to talk about phpBB3. Will I be making templates for phpBB3? Yes. Will I be converting my current templates to phpBB3? Not sure. Looking at the proSilver template at phpbb.com you can see that phpBB3 is quite different than phpBB2. There is also a set level of quality in the templates that will be expected, which I believe are not currently met by any of my templates.

I am starting the design phase of a few phpBB3 templates. I am hoping to be the first one to release a template for phpBB3, depending on when it comes out. It's a busy month for me, having University exams this comming month, so heres to hoping that phpBB3 is delayed a month.

Site update

Posted On: March 20, 2007 | Posted in: Site Updates

I did a small update today. Basically just added one of the latest works ive done. Very Baby is a design that was based off their website. They wanted a matching template, so I made one that matched. You can see it under Custom Designs in the portfolio section.

On a side note, im working on a small redesign. The changes will be purely visual, and should provide a cleaner look.

Mail problems

Posted On: Febuary 14, 2007 | Posted in: Site News

Just a quick update: Urchin, a stats program in cpanel which allows me to see my site stats, made a wopping 600mb log file. This file filled up my disk space (oops), so I havent received any emails in the last 2 days. I am working on deleteing the log file. However, since urchin doesnt use 1 large file, but thousands of small ones, it's taking some time. I shouldnt have lost any emails, ill reply as soon as I can.

Forums to be reset; Corporate to be released

Posted On: Febuary 02, 2007 | Posted in: Site News

Due to constant spam, I will be resetting the forums next week with a fresh copy. This will remove all the spam, and I will be changing it around to prevent spambots from signing up.

On a brighter note, corporate is done and you can see it in the styles demo, and will be put up for download tonight permitting everything goes well.

Limited Time Offer - FREE vBulletin integration.

Posted On: January 25, 2007 | Posted in: Free Stuff

In an effort to move into new areas, for a limited time I am offering free vB template integration with your website. Note that the reason this is free is because I have only done it once before, and do not wish to purchase the $120 lisence to practice on. I did get a good look at the templating system when I did my last job.

If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail. Like I said, the work is completely free for vB for a limited time.

New Template Soon!

Posted On: January 25, 2007 | Posted in: Comming Soon

I have a new template in the works. It was designed by Osama Syed of CreativDesigns. I also have permission from a web designer to convert 2 templates to phpBB. More details on those later. My web2.0 template has been canceled.

Let me know how you guys feel about this, I love hearing from you :)

Intensity Released

Posted On: January 04, 2007 | Posted in: Releases

Intensity has just been released, very, very late. Check it out in the styles demo, portfolio and downloads section.

Site Update

Posted On: December 27, 2006 | Posted in: Site News

Ive gone and updated the website a bit. The changes are as follows:

The titles of stories are now links to the permalink page.

The portfolio page now uses a drop down system. The old way was becomming too cluttered, and this way I can add more information. Thanks to Bryan St.Amour for the code. Test it out, if you see any bugs, let me know via Contact.

I have updated the same functionality into the downloads section.

CSS changes to headers of posts, names in comments, and a few small changes all around.

Hope you like the changes guys, let me know what you think. I have a few more things im going to implement, gotta get to work.

No, im not dead

Posted On: December 12, 2006 | Posted in: Site News

If you're wondering what happened to me, no, i'm not dead. Intensity is still heading for release, pending the icons from Osama Syed form NGX. Theres also a public version of the GreenLush template comming after Intensity. That unnamed template is still unnamed, and I havent had time to work on it recently.

In other news, I have done work for the company CeniCorp for their forums, but the design is still pending review. Ill keep you posted on that job when I hear back from the company.

Fix for Samurai

Posted On: November 20, 2006 | Posted in: Updates

The following fix will work for users in IE6 who use the samurai template. Download the files overall_header.tpl and images/side.gif from the latest package and overwrite the ones in your current samurai copy.

Error in Samurai; Intensity Delayed

Posted On: November 17, 2006 | Posted in: Updates

There is an error with the header image in samurai that affects IE6 users. The problem is with PNG transparency. I am and was always aware that by default, transparency is not supported in IE6 for PNG files. There is a javascript fix, which is used on this site and I fully tested.

Then how did this error get by me? Well, the problem lies with Windows Update having made the update to IE7 manditory, leaving me with no way to test for IE6. I did everything I could from this end to try and make it supported, but the js file was not included for some reason.

I am working on a solution. The same issue also affects Intensity, so that has also been delayed. I should have both updated/released on Monday. Again, sorry for the delay and I will try and prevent this in the future.

Help name the unnamed!

Posted On: November 13, 2006 | Posted in: Comming Soon

Sometime this month, yet another template will be released. Yes, that literally doubles the amount of releases that ive made in the past 3 years in just 1 month, but so be it :)

Intensity is comming along fine and is near complete already. Bug fixes and testing are already going steady. However, I had a spark go off, and I opened photoshop, and I started what I believe is the first ever web2.0 design phpBB template.

The only problem is, however, I don;t have a name for it. So, for the first time ever, I am offering the chance for someone to name the template. As with all the templates, I will not release a screenshot before its released, so heres the details: It's web2.0 design; It's green and white and gray; It's simple. Send me your names over comments, contact form or forums, and the best one gets the name ;)

Intensity for phpBB2 Announced

Posted On: November 11, 2006 | Posted in: Comming Soon

Intensity will be the third template developed in partnership by NGX and aC.com, and will be another free template for download.

This new template is nothing like the previous templates, samurai and ninja, and is based off the alexis2 core. It is a lighter template, and can be compared more to the alexis templates than the NGX ones.

The planned release date is set for Thursday, Nov 16, 2006, and should be avalible on that date. However, that date is subject to change.

Samurai for phpBB released

Posted On: November 10, 2006 | Posted in: Releases

Samurai for phpBB has been released to the public. It is avalible in the download sections of this site, and can be viewed in the styles demo.

Samurai template for phpBB2 announced

Posted On: November 08, 2006 | Posted in: Comming Soon

NinjaGraphX and aC.com have announced the samurai template for phpBB2. The template is built off of the Ninja template, and features a new colour and new style.

The template should be avalible in the next few days for free download, and will be submitted to phpBB.com as an official style. As soon as the template is complete it will be added to the styles demo.

On a side note, there is another NGX template in development, and will be built on the alexis2 core code. As always, I am looking for graphic designers to partner with to release more templates, so contact me if you are interested.

NGX and aC.com release Ninja for phpBB

Posted On: November 05, 2006 | Posted in: Releases

NinjaGraphX.com and andrewCharron.com have decided to release the custom ninja template, originally designed for NinjaGraphX.com, for free. The download can be found in the downloads section of this site, and will be submitted to phpBB.com for an official style release.

Ninja is a black and blue subSilver based style, and can be seen in the styles demo. Feel free to leave comments, as usual :)

Wecome to the new andrewCharron.com

Posted On: October 29, 2006 | Posted in: Site News

Welcome to the new andrewCharron.com. This site has many advantages over the old site. For one, it is database driven, making it easier for me to deliver more content.

As well, I also have integrated the site with the forum more, and seperated the styles demo from the forum. As always, im looking for volunteer moderators to help delete bot posts, but I am working as best I can to prevent bots in the firstplace.

I also plan on upgrading this site frequently. I have plans to give it better SEO, add some neat new features (Digg, changing logo, etc), and am looking forward to hearing some recommendations on what you would like to see here.

I would like to turn this website into a home for users to come, get support, get comments on designs they have, or contact me for partnerships. If you have a phpBB template you want coded for release, we can work out a deal.

So let me know what you guys think, and welcome to the new andrewCharron.com :)
